Loca: Set to Discoverable

Loca: Set to Discoverable was a project that used bluetooth as a new form of surveillance created  by John Evans, Drew Hemment, Theo Humphries, and Mike Raento in 2006.  The project was created with the intent to make the public more aware of the amount of information they gave away unknowingly.  They did this by sending out short messages via bluetooth to any passerby with their cell phone set to discoverable.  During ISEA2006 and ZeroOne in San Jose the Loca group set up multiple 'nodes'…See More

Sun Boxes

Sun Boxes are an environment to enter and exit at will. It's comprised of twenty speakers operating independently, each powered by the sun via solar panels. There is a different loop set to play a guitar note in each box continuously. These guitar notes collectively make a Bb chord. Because the loops are different in length, once the piece begins they continually overlap and the piece slowly evolves over time.The sounds of Sun Boxes have been described as both soothing and energizing.
